Restaurants On The Road To Ruin – Part 3 – Si
Author: Bookstore Piet // Category: UncategorizedOverheard by a friend dining out at Si the other night…
Customer – What beers do you have?
Waiter – Heineken, Corona, Sam Adams. Let me know quickly which you would like, we only have two of each.
WTF! OK, I probably got the beers wrong but the point is if you can’t stock your bar anymore then you are in serious trouble. Of course my track record is mediocre when it comes to declaring the death of a restaurant. Sensi, thankfully, is still chugging along and I hear they are still living up to and exceeding expectations for delivering great food. Bookbinder’s is slightly changed. The Taxin’s fired the management (no great loss) and are trying to keep it going.

I checked out Si a while ago and decided it wasn’t worth it for a repeat visit. The food was very mediocre, I had the Shrimp and onions some kind of Polenta dish and lamb meatbals and a plate of cured meats. Their wine list was very average, a lot of cheap stuff on there and also they use those stupid jars to serve it in. The space upstairs is cute I guess. That other place in C-ville is ten times better. I think those beers you were offered are pretty pathetic for a Spanish place. There are a million Spanish beers they could serve instead. Its like they are a dumbed down version of a tapas restaurant.

It’s been a good 6 months since I went to Si with my wife and our experience was much more positive. We shared the lamb meatballs, squid ink rice, empanadas (that’s all I can remember). We thought it was very good. Hopefully you caught them on a bad day.

Si has lost almost all of their valuable employees. Such a shame since they had such a great start. Too bad the owner is a sleaze.
